MASTERWORKS COLLECTION

The Masterworks Collection represents the highest expression of sword-making at Aktisu Forge, where I fully explore the art form as a complete work, and aim to bring together the blade and its mountings in perfect aesthetic harmony and functional form. 

Each piece in the Masterworks Collection is conceived as an individual idea from the outset. The idea is to bring together the blade, its form and characteristics with the materials and finishes of the Koshirae into a coherent expression of a theme.  These blades are forged and finished with traditional methods and techniques where and whenever possible, and are made intentionally with careful focus and attention to detail. I pay close attention to geometry, balance, hamon, polishing and proportions. My intention is that these are the finest swords I can possibly create each season.

Masterworks Collection pieces may take the form of Tanto, Wakizashi, Katana and Odachi, in various blade styles. These are always presented in Koshirae, with an accompanying Shirasaya for storage and transport. These pieces are made in extremely limited numbers, perhaps only 2 or 3 in a year. I don’t make these pieces simply to fill the catalogue, and only set to creating one when an idea needs to be brought to life.
