Japanese Sword Mounting Service
I have been pursuing the art of Tsukamaki since 2018 and have wrapped hundreds of handles, from small knives to full length sword handles. In the case of swords, I have worked on both modern reproduction Tsuka as well as a few antiques.
My services currently include:
- Re-wrapping of Tsuka with cotton, silk or leather Tsukaito
- Applying new Samegawa (ray skin)
- Fitting new Tsuba, Seppa, Fuchi & Kashira
- Crafting new wood core for Tsuka
- Crafting new Saya
- Crafting complete Shirasaya
- Making Copper Habaki
I only use high quality materials imported from Japan, and in the case of wood, sustainably sourced woods suitable for sword mounting.
Hybrid Polishing Service
I offer my services for Hybrid Polishing of modern, mono-steel Japanese style swords. Polishing may be necessary over time for swords actively used in Tamashigiri to sharpen them and to revitalise the aesthetic of the sword. It can also bring out the hidden character of the Hamon.
While Hybrid Polished Swords can look fantastic, it is generally considered a faster and cheaper way to polish modern Japanese Swords. It is therefore not a method I will use for Antique Swords or genuine Nihonto.
In time I hope to offer traditional natural stone polishing for higher value swords and nihonto.
