As a craftsman I’ve always loved the Kiridashi, it was the first bade I ever made, and I’ve always had one on my workshop bench ever since. 

When it comes to Kiridashi’s made be westerners through, I’ve always felt there is something lacking, namely elegance. With this special edition project I wanted to create a Kiridashi which honours its traditional roots while embracing an elegant modern design. 

This Kiridashi is handmade from 1095 High Carbon Steel, hammer textured and forge heat treated to a hardness of around 60 Rockwell. The hard edges are polished and the cutting edge bevel is honed and polished to make this a very sharp utility knife. 

Kiridashi’s are great for general tasks in a workshop cutting plastics leather and wood, and can also be used for marking lines. This Kiridashi comes with a simple edge protector sheath for storage.

This knife is a special edition of 10 pieces made specifically for my table at the Cape Town Knife Show 2026, and will be available exclusively at the show.
